Swamp Mallow a.k.a Hibiscus

Bought in March as flower pots with stumps in them. Finally started growing about May. Had big growth spurt this last month and finally bloomed this week. Stunning colour. A native Texas plant, it does well in marshy conditions.

Bolivar, TX, 2004

Eva & I’s first real vacation. Drove South to Bolivar Island/Peninsula near Galveston, TX. Sadly a hurricane a few years back destroyed a great number of the beach houses. This was some glorious weather in November. We had the beach to ourselves and even swam a little.

Ranch, S.W. Texas

My friend Chet’s ranch in the middle of nowhere, way S.W. Texas. Aug 2009.

Prada Store, Valentine, S.W. Texas

A pop architectural land art project by artists Elmgreen & Dragset. It’s pretty odd seeing that Prada awning in the middle of all that scrub land.

Dallas – Cultural Oasis in North Texas

Dallas really is amazing when it comes to super high quality ‘art’ on free public display. Next to St. Annes Restaurant – built in an old Papist School they lost because they were pedophiles – is just another DFW skyscraper that just happens to have 15thC Samurai armour in the lobby next to the ATM. Cool. Hmm – just noticed the lens vignetting.

Beef Fajitas, Glorias, Davis St., Dallas, TX

This was the last night at their old location. They are moving about three blocks down the road to an old fire-station. If I was to be limited to one dish for the rest of my life it would be a close run between fajitas and Thai something. Or Vietnamese – or Indian.

Infrastructure, Lakewood, Dallas

They are ugly, but I like their utilitarian nature. I suppose they still use wooden poles because they are cheap and flex. They are also easier for linemen to climb.

Super Moon Over Downtown Dallas

I should have been closer. I should have used a longer lens, but I don’t have one – I apparently sold my 200mm.
