Ft Worth Ave Work Prints Show

A bunch of local shooters have been photographing Ft. Worth Ave.  attempting to create a record of every block.  There are great plans afoot for this corridor and a need to capture it as it is now was realised. We hope to do it again in 10 years, 20 years etc etc. It should be a fun night.

Here some blurb…

Haley Henman Gallery hosts a two-day exhibit ‘Work Prints’ Commerce Street Bridge to Westmoreland Road; a Time Capsule.  It will feature the work of 20 local photographers who each focused on different properties – assigned by lottery – on Fort Worth Ave. Photographers include Les Hall, Kenda North, Howard Milner, Scott Jenke, Charles Reed, Joshua King, John O’Donnell, Ken Smith, Adam Fish, Kent Barker, Dan Piassick, Jeff Baker, Richard Doherty, Manuel Pacina, Larry Travis, Scott Keith, Robin Sachs, Eva Gordon, Mari Hidalgo, and David Lyles.

The opening reception is Fri., Feb. 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.; the exhibit will be open for viewing that Friday and Sat. the 27th. There will be a Mexican corn, nachos &  hot dog carts parked out front as well as appetizers from Buena Vista restaurant inside along with wine water & soft drinks.  A list of delicious local eateries will be available at the door for further exploration of this unique area of Dallas.

Once Upon a Time in the West

Sergio Leone’s  iconoclastic western has some problems IMHO. (1) It takes itself so damned earnestly. (2) It has Latin actors dubbed into English. (3) Charles Bronson can’t act for shit.  (4) It’s filmed in fucking Spain. (5) Harmonicas are really annoying.

Apart from all that it could be one of the best westerns ever made – indeed many think this is the case. For my money “The Wild Bunch” wins.

Nevertheless Claudia Cardinale provides eye candy and Henry Fonda is excellent playing against type – he supposedly felt it was his favourite role. This DVD copy I am watching from Netflix is an excellent print.

Gods Preserve Us! About Fracking Time!

We just watched the final [we pray] episode of Battlestar Galactica on DVD from Netflix. Eva is a big fan – I am less enamored. For one thing the acting is pretty dire, the script is pretty banal and overall it is a big push of the suspended reality paradigm…

But the wife loves it – and that is important. Eddie James Olmos is pretty good – a bit craggy and earnest but overall pretty good. A couple, if not more, of the male leads are a bit light in the anti-gravity boots. Taking them seriously either as action men or randy pilots is a little hard. Female lead Kara Thrace, played by Katee Sackhoff brings to mind that Dorothy Parker quote “She runs the gamut of emotions from A to B.”

One does take consolation in appearances of Six played by Tricia Helfer. When you look like this you don’t have to act…

Stained Glass Heroes – Circumstance

lukevid1

My very talented nephew Luke makes music videos, documentaries & experimental films. He’s got it. This latest video for Stained Glass Heroes is quite lovely and trippy. The song is very good too.

His documentary film Isolation was selected for the Edinburgh Film Festival. Here’s the trailer. The kid’s going places.
